3. Peeled Ginger Root-

Ginger is very effective when it comes to numb pain. It has got natural anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe the nerve ending in the gums.

  • Take one Ginger
  • Peel it off
  • Rub the ginger on your baby’s gums for 2-3 minutes.

4. Ground Cloves-

  • Mix ground cloves with water or unsalted butter or coconut oil.
  • Keep the paste in the fridge to get cold.
  • Rub the paste on baby’s gums.

5. A cold washcloth-

Take a clean, fresh washcloth and freeze it. After you have frozen a damp cloth, let your baby chew on it for a cool and numbing sensation.

6. Teething Biscuits-

You won’t believe it but there are some Teething biscuits available, which help to soothe the teething baby. They are unsweetened, so you don’t need to worry, and great for kids who love to gnaw on things. So, you can try this Teething biscuit too.

7. Clean Fingers-

You can rub your clean finger in the baby’s mouth and slightly press the gums. The pressing will help to temporarily numb the pain. This is the most common home remedy which works the best.

8. Carrots-

Giving your baby carrots to chew on is also a good idea as they are hard to chew on and provide relief to the baby. And make sure you are around your baby so that they do not chew on carrots.

9. Vanilla Extract-

Rubbing vanilla extract on the baby’s gum is also very helpful, also, the baby enjoys the taste of vanilla.

10. Freeze a Bottle-

Take a bottle and fill it with water. Keep the bottle upside down and freeze it, so that water is frozen in the nipples. Let your baby chew on the frozen nipples. This will soothe the gums.

11. Breastfeeding-

If you are still breastfeeding your baby, then this is the best teething remedy. But it can be painful for you, as a baby may bite you. Sucking helps to soothe the pain and provide relief.

12. Green Onions-

Cut the green part of the onion, and put some salt on the other white part. You can also steam the onion a little for it to become soft. Later, you can give this gummy vegetable to your baby to chew, it will be fun.

13. Licorice Root-

It is a herb that is very effective in numbing pain. The root is sweet in taste and naturally numbs the painful gums when your baby chews it. Make sure you give Licorice root and not Licorice candy. Candy is not good for the baby.

14. Rose Hip Syrup-

This is a little different but very effective.

  • Add ¼ cup of dried rose hips to 4 cups of water.
  • Simmer the mixture in a pot for 30 minutes.
  • Strain out the water and pour it in a jar.
  • Add 1 cup of sweetener to the jar and shake.
  • Apply 4-6 drops of the sweetener to the gums every hour. 

How long does Teething Last?

The process of teething is different in different babies. But in the first 6 months, you will see first the lower teeth coming up and then the upper teeth. The whole process of teething takes up around 2 years-

  • Central incisors: at the age of 6-12 months
  • Lateral incisors: at the age of 9-16 months
  • Canine teeth: at the age of 16-23 months
  • First molars: at the age of 13-19 months
  • Second molars: at the age of 22-24 months

How to care for Baby’s New Teeth?

To keep good oral hygiene of your baby’s mouth even before teeth have come is a good habit.

  • Until teeth comes, you can clean your baby’s gums with a wet washcloth.
  • After the teeth has come, keep cleaning the teeth and gums the same way as before.
  • When your baby’s first birthday arrives, you can start using a soft bristles brush with a very little toothpaste which does not have fluoride in it.
